South Sudan
Rewriting the story, one right at a time.
IGE partnered with Women Relief Aid to bring theatre to girls facing crisis across South Sudan and Uganda. Over 16 weeks, we trained and co-led alongside classroom teachers, turning drama into a tool for empowerment. Together, the girls wrote and performed an original theatre piece and community poem — their voices, their stage.
WRA's on-the-ground work made it possible: supporting women, girls, and children through education, health care, legal aid, and peace advocacy in a region still fighting for women's rights.
Kenya
Her story. Her stage. Her sisterhood.
For three years, IGE has been honored to work with a group of single young mothers in Kenya — running two 16-week programs where we train and collaborate with two female community members who lead the program, helping participants write and perform original dramas and community poems.
Two groups meet concurrently throughout the program, coming together at the end at Maseno University — where they take the stage together to share what they've created. The bond goes beyond the weekly meetings — participants have shown up for one another outside the program too, building a sisterhood that lasts.
The relationships we've built here are unbreakable.
Thailand
Three decades of displacement. One stage for their stories.
IGE partners with the Thoo Mweh Khee Migrant Learning Center, serving the Karen people — an ethnic group from Myanmar who've lived in Thai refugee camps for over 30 years.
Since 2018, we've traveled to Northwestern Thailand for four summers, living and working alongside the Thoo Mweh Khee community through drama classes taught in English — doubling as ESL learning and Girls Circles that build skills, confidence, and connection.
When the pandemic halted travel, we didn't stop the work — we trained local women to lead their own Girls Circles, giving rise to our Female Ambassador program.
The relationships we've built here are unbreakable.
Cambodia
From trauma to triumph — written, staged, and spoken."
Phare Ponleu Selpak — "Brightness of the Arts" — began in the refugee camps on the Thai-Cambodian border, helping children heal from the displacement and trauma of the Khmer Rouge. Today, it's grown into a powerhouse of art education, offering free schooling and family support to over 1,000 children and families each year.
IGE spent a week in Battambang, Cambodia, leading drama workshops for PPS students in Theatre, Circus, and Traditional Dance — ages 9 to 23 — working alongside a local translator to build creative storytelling skills.
